Early Humans

How far back does the human species go?
We can say that human life began 8 million years ago. Scientists have discovered that during that time there were some human species called hominids which were the earliest ancestors of humans separated from apes.

Was Australopithecusa species of human?
Yes, Australopithecus were part of human species. Although they probably had very similar characteristics to the apes, they also demonstrated particular characteristics of humans. They were similar to modern humans in that they were bipedal, but, like apes, they had small brains. Their canine teeth were smaller than those found in apes, and their cheek teeth were larger than those of modern humans. Their physical resemblance to apes was probably due to adaptation. We have to think about time line, location, environment, etc.

Was Homo Erectusa species of human?
According to  http://humanorigins.si.edu/evidence/human-fossils/species/homo-erectus Early African Homo erectus are “the oldest known early humans to have possessed modern human-like body proportions with relatively elongated legs and shorter arms compared to the size of the torso”
We can consider them part of human species. Scientist believe they were the first hominin to migrate out of Africa. Homo erectus are the first of our relatives to have body proportions similar to human.

Compare Homo Erectus and Homo Sapiens in terms of the range and duration of their presence on the planet Earth.
Homo erectus is a major success story in terms of the species survival. They were also the most geographically widespread species. Homo erectus appeared about two million years ago in Africa. It is believed that they evolved from either a late form of australopith or a primitive form of Homo. They had the ability to spread throughout in some parts of Asia. Homo erectus fossil evidence extends more than 1.5 million years, making it by far the longest survival of all our human ancestors.

Homo sapiens is part of the group called hominids, which were the earliest humanlike creatures. Based on scientific evidence, it is believed that hominids diverged from other primates somewhere between 2.5 and 4 million years ago in eastern and southern Africa. Although we can see that the hominid family was very diverse and had different characteristics, we can also see that they were all bipedal.

It is believed that we all humans belong to that specie. We only evolved relatively recently but have been able to spread throughout the world with complex culture and technology and occupy a range of different environments. Homo sapiens evolved out of Homo Heidelbergensis in Africa. They have long co-existed with the Neanderthals in Europe and the Middle East, and probably with Homo Erectus in Asia and Homo Floresiensis in Indonesia, but are now the only remaining human race.
