Mongols

  •  China, which after the Tang had broken up into separate kingdoms – the Jin and the Song – was unified politically and administratively by Khubilai Khan, one of Genghis' grandchildren. Thereafter, China was able to maintain its geographic and political integrity despite the succession of dynasties.

  • Warfare technology and logistics were other factors in the Mongols' superiority. The gunpowder formula was changed to yield explosive force, rather than slow burn as in fire-lances and rockets.

  • Mongol’s success lay in their army. There were organized, discipline and better lead than their opponents.

  • It brought the major civilizations of Eurasia- Europe, China, and the Islamic world- into far more direct contact that in earlier times.

  • Mongols never try tried to spread their own faith among subject peoples. Their religion centered on rituals invoking ancestors, which were performed around the family hearth.

  • They offered women a higher status and gave them fewer restrictions.

Against

  • They were very bloody and violent

  • What sustained them was the ability fo extract wealth, through raiding, trading, or extortion, from agricultural civilizations such as china, Persia, and Byzantine (Strayer, p, 462).

  • Mongols treated Chinese like slaves. Few Mongols learned Chinese, and Mongol law discriminating against Chinese, reserving for them them most severe punishments.

  • Mongol invasions were among the most devastating invasions in global history.

  • Many of the areas invaded by the Mongols never recovered. The populations of some cities were wiped out. In addition, the Mongols destroyed ancient irrigation systems in some places. Thus, the land could no longer support resettlement.

  1. Love your points on why you were against it! I am all for them, what I believe is survival of the fittest. Life was different and the Mongols knew exactly what they needed to do. With their strong Army and respect for both genders it made them powerful. Not only were they powerful but everyone respected their leader, everyone knew even though they may have had fear at times they knew staying strong and as a team would help them become who they were. I do believe it was a very bloody time but battle is always bloody. I respect their loyalty and commitment to each other. Great points! Amazing profile as well!!

  2. Thanks Samantha. Mongols knew how to work as a team, that was what helped them excel. I think during that time you had to be violent to excel. There was no other option. It was all war and destruction. You are right when you say that the Mongols knew what they wanted.
